We all know that feeling – when work starts to feel a bit overwhelming and our wellbeing starts to suffer. It’s important to remember that our wellbeing is just as important at work as it is in other aspects of our lives. After all, we spend a large chunk of our time at work, so it’s crucial that we feel good while we’re there!
There are lots of things that can affect our wellbeing at work, from our relationships with colleagues to the physical environment we work in. But don’t worry, there are plenty of things you can do to improve your wellbeing at work. Here are five top tips:
1. Make time for breaks
It’s important to take a break from work now and then, even if it’s just for five minutes. Step away from your desk, stretch your legs and get some fresh air. You’ll feel more refreshed and ready to tackle your work with renewed energy.
2. Keep moving
Sitting in the same position all day can be really bad for our health, so make sure you take regular breaks to move around. Go for a walk at lunchtime or try some desk exercises – anything that gets you up and moving!
3. Eat well
What we eat has a big impact on how we feel, so it’s important to make sure we’re fuelling our bodies with healthy food. That doesn’t mean you have to give up all your favourite foods, but try to strike a balance and make sure you’re getting enough fruit and vegetables.
4. Connect with others
Having positive relationships with our colleagues can do wonders for our wellbeing. Take the time to have a chat with your co-workers, join a workplace social club or organise after-work drinks – anything that helps you connect with others.
5. Be mindful of your thoughts
Our thoughts have a big impact on how we feel, so it’s important to be mindful of what we’re thinking about. If you find yourself worrying or ruminating on negative thoughts, take a step back and try to refocus on something positive.
Taking care of our wellbeing is vital, both in and out of work. By making small changes to our everyday routines, we can make a big difference to how we feel. So why not give some of these tips a try and see how you feel?
