Not only are the technical abilities learnt an important aspect of any apprenticeship, but also the general skill development of an employee’s recruit. The apprentice’s very own Development Coach is a helpful aspect of our apprenticeship offering. They are available to track progress and provide support, including Maths and English skills or punctuality.

A PR and Communications Assistant Apprentice Learner Journey

A PR and Communications Assistant apprentice has quite the journey from when they first start with (possibly) very little skill, all the way to passing their endpoint assessment and having an index of knowledge.

Unit 1 - The PR Industry
Unit 1 - The PR Industry

During this unit, learners will explore the role of PR within a business and how to stay abreast of sector-specific insight to be utilised in PR campaigns. They will learn about behavioural change theory and how the role of PR is used to affect customers. Finally, they will learn about the role of the media and current affairs within their daily work and how these shape both internal communications and external PR.

Unit 2 - Campaign Management Part 1
Unit 2 - Campaign Management Part 1

During this unit, learners will discover how to operationally manage their PR campaigns and develop skills in managing their workload effectively. They will learn about key processes and systems in PR including database management and reporting. Finally, they will develop skills in desk research and database management best practices to further their skills in the workplace.

Unit 3 - Campaign Management Part 2
Unit 3 - Campaign Management Part 2

During this unit, you will learn about the back office procedures involved in PR campaigns and how to manage the finances involved in PR departments and channels. You will uncover tools to help you develop relationships within the media. Finally, you will learn the principles of effective presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Unit 4 - Reputation Management
Unit 4 - Reputation Management

During this unit, you will explore how to create a communications strategy and develop a crisis management plan for a business. Finally, you will learn techniques of project management to manage PR campaigns and projects successfully.

Unit 5 - PR Strategy
Unit 5 - PR Strategy

During this unit, you will learn how to set public relations and communications objectives to ensure organisational requirements are being achieved. You will learn how tactical targets can be set for activities. Finally, you will learn how to gain insight to develop a PR strategy.

Unit 6 - Content Production
Unit 6 - Content Production

During this unit, you will develop your understanding of the planning and production processes involved in building campaigns. You will learn the basics of creating a communications strategy, developing communications tactics and implementing a crisis plan. Finally, you will learn how to produce different types of content including press releases, social media posts and op-eds.

Unit 7 - Content Distribution
Unit 7 - Content Distribution

During this unit, you will develop skills in distributing content using a variety of digital techniques including social media, paid advertising and outreach. You will learn how to develop media and influencer lists appropriate for a business. Finally, you will learn the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of digital platforms for usage in PR campaigns.

Unit 8 - Content Evaluation
Unit 8 - Content Evaluation

During this unit, you will learn how to assess and evaluate the impact of your content and campaigns using quantitative and qualitative data methods. You will learn how to report data and analysis in a meaningful and impactful manner. Finally, you will explore different systems to utilise to report on success and understand the importance of establishing appropriate performance metrics.

Unit 9 - Digital PR
Unit 9 - Digital PR

During this unit, you will further your knowledge in digital PR techniques including search marketing, paid media and email marketing. You will learn how to use management tools including Facebook, Twitter and Google for Business to run effective campaigns. Finally, you will learn how to report on campaign success and utilise analytics tools effectively.
