We are looking for a 1st Line IT Support Technician to join our team, based at our Totton, Southampton Office. This role is expected to follow an approved Level 3 Apprenticeship as a “Information communications technician” and acceptance and continuation in this role is dependant on meeting the milestones of and being accepted onto an approved Level 3 Apprenticeship course.

In this role you will troubleshoot, and fix IT calls raised by our customers, either face to face, on the phone or online. We aim to ensure they are resolved within customer service level agreements or against key performance indicators. You will also be involved in implementing and specifying new deployments.

In supporting our clients, you will work on a variety of products and technologies including all the Microsoft products (M365, Azure, Sharepoint, Intune etc), Apple iOS & Android Products, multi-vendor firewalls/routers & switches, along with other technologies such as CCTV and VoIP. Our approach to customer IT is to work across the market to find the best value solutions to fit the customer needs.

As customers move into a more applications/cloud-based environment our work involves not just the traditional activities of hardware and network support but also important matters such as cyber security management, licensing management and more.

Your working hours will be 37.5 hours per week, within the core period of Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00, though extended hours and weekends may occasionally be required to meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Your role will be to provide full 1st line IT support to customers.
  • You will be the part of first point of contact, you will resolve as many calls as you can and where you need assistance you will escalate calls when appropriate.
  • The technical aspects of the role include:
  • Providing hardware/software support by telephone, email, callout or via remote tools
  • Installing and configuring new (mostly Windows/Mac) computers, notebooks, printers, multi-function devices and mobile & desktop telephone handsets.
  • Installing software, upgrading operating systems and software version upgrades
  • Manage Customers’ 365 Environments, including emails, Sharepoint, etc.
  • Manage Other Equipment/Software as necessary.
  • Working with third-party service partners to resolve issues
  • Tracks the progress of a call to ensure it is resolved within SLA

Entry requirements

Minimum level of Maths and English must be GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent (evidence required).

Driving license is essential due to office location and travel opportunities.

Information Communications Technican Level 3 Apprenticeship

Information communications technicians support the delivery of efficient IT operations, this could be installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing hardware and software faults, solving technical and applications problems either remotely or in person, including resolving issues such as slow performance, connection problems and an inability to access data. 

Our ICT apprenticeship covers topics allowing apprentices to support organisations relying on computer and communication systems in all areas of their operations and decision-making processes.  As an ICT apprentice, you will develop skills and knowledge of the industry by learning key IT essentials such as fault finding and diagnostics, preventative measures, routine maintenance, system tools and testing.  You will also gain an awareness of cloud systems and physical and virtual network components including an awareness of security and firewalls, network architecture, protocols and principles of database migration.
