Overview

Apprentify are support a 'local family support charity', to find their new Public Relations and Communication apprentice. Apprentify are hiring on behalf of our client.

We are working alongside a nationally recognised charity, based a stones throw away from Abraham Moss tram station just outside of central Manchester. Home-Start is a small, local family support charity, providing volunteer-led peer support to families with young children in their homes and surrounding community. Home-Start is part of a national network with the aim to ensure that all children are given the best possible start in life.

This post will support the implementation of a PR, Marketing and Communications strategy, with a focus on digital communications/social media. The aim of the post is to grow followers and supporters with a passion for the cause, that then translates into increased numbers of volunteers and increased income generation. The post will also involve some administrative support.

We are looking for someone with strong admin and coordination skills to champion Home-Start Manchester and our work, with families’ voices at its core, to new and diverse audiences, growing volunteer team, our supporter base and unrestricted income through appeals. Your willingness and ability to collaborate and build relationships, both internally and externally; your creativity and compelling storytelling; your passion to be part of bringing about real change for young children and their families; and your skills in sharing our work to engage the public, will be key to the success of this role.

Main Responsibilities will include:

PR work:

  • Identify story opportunities within the charity
  • Have an awareness of the national news agenda and identify opportunities for Home-Start Manchester to be part of the discussion
  • Use your initiative and contribute ideas to generate content for news stories and features
  • Ensure we are connecting with key journalists, influencers and celebrities on our social media channels
  • Keep our media database and coverage records up to date
  • Look out for other awareness raising opportunities for the charity
  • Identify awards to apply for and manage the application process along with the CEO

General comms:

  • Develop and deliver communications and campaigns across various formats and channels, including social media, website, marketing materials, stakeholder comms
  • Create engaging and consistent content to support marketing, fundraising, and influencing goals
  • Plan and monitor communications and campaigns, developing annual calendars, and generating insights to improve reach and engagement
  • Measure analytics of social media, website and newsletters through monthly reports to understand the impact on audience engagement and growth, and develop a deep understanding of our demographics and potential new stakeholders
  • Work with volunteers and families to co-create content
  • Create communication plans for events and promotional materials

Entry requirements

A minimum of grade 4/C in both Maths and English GCSE (Evidencable).

Understanding of office environments and how to act professionally in a front-facing position.

Training to be provided

The Juice Academy is part of the Apprentify group. The Juice Academy is an industry-led apprenticeship provider. They are partnered with Smoking Gun PR to deliver the Public Relatoins & Communications assistant Level 4. Apprentices work on the job with business whilst receiving 20% off the job training. The training is delivered by current industry professionals. THe Juice Academy training sessions are face-to-face learning at Smoking Gun offices in Manchester city or can be joined remotely. Apprentices will also receive the on the job training in the workplace.

The qualification will include:

Level 4 Public Relations & Communications assistant.
